Etienne Lafrance

Etienne Lafrance, doublebassist from Québec, is an eclectic, curious and passionate artist. He evoles in classical music as well as in improvised music, accompanying singers or in various forms of world music.

After getting his basic musical education in Québec city, he did an internship at the International François Rabbath Institute of Paris where he got the Soloist and Teacher diplomas. He teaches each summer at the Music Academy of the Domaine Forget as well as teaching masterclasses abroad, including Australia and the United States.

Co-Principal bassist with the Québec Symphony Orchestra, he also give solo concerts where he perform original works, transcriptions and his own compositions.

Active in jazz and improvised music, he is a member of TRIFOLIA, along with pianist Marianne Trudel and percussionnist Patrick Graham. They play regularely in Québec, in Canada and internationally. The trio won the 2013 Opus Prize for the Jazz album of the year for their cd «Le Refuge» as well as being nominated in the same category at the Juno Awards.
